Demonstrators currently are able to order a select number of items from the 2010/2011 Idea Book and Catalogue, and do it at 20% off. How cool is that?

How would you like to be able to order new colors and stamps now? Then the new Mini Starter Kit announced this week is perfect for you. Technique Tuesday: Burnt Batik Featuring Tropical Party

Posted on June 8, 2010June 7, 2010 by Josee

 Batik josee
Doesn't this make you want to lie on a beach somewhere?  The Tropical Party stamp set from the Summer Mini is definitely one of my new favourites!  This card features the Burnt Batik technique, which is a fun and easy technique.  In case you don't remember batik – it was very in years ago, and it's a way of dyeing cloth using a wax resist.  Very funky!

Here's a quick tutorial on this technique, and how to make this card.

What You'll Need

  • Stamps: Tropical Party (118515/130081), Favorite Thoughts (116968/130048)
  • Ink: Versamark (102283), Pumpkin Pie Classic (105216), So Saffron Classic (105213), Old Olive Classic (102277)
  • Paper: Pumpkin Pie Cardstock (105117), So Saffron Cardstock (105118) Whisper White Cardstock(106529)
  • Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder(109130), Fire Circle Brads(109110), SNAIL (104332), Stampin’ Dimensionals (104330)
  • Tools: Heat Tool (100005), Big Shot (113439), Two Tags Die (115954), Paper Piercing Tool ( 116631), Fancy Flower Punch (118073), Five Petal Punch (109041)

Cardstock Dimensions for this Project

  • Pumpkin Pie: Card Base: 5×10 for Card Base, Scrap for Fancy Flower Punch
  • So Saffron:Tag: 3×6 scrap, Scrap for Five Petal Punch
  • Whisper White: Embossed Panel 4×4, Scrap for stamped flower

Technique Directions

This fun technique is best with a bolder, solid image stamp set.   Tropical Party is perfect to create a whimsical birthday card.

  1. Randomly stamp images on Whisper White Cardstock with Versamark.
  2. Cover with clear embossing powder and tap off excess.
  3. Set with Heat Tool and continue heating until the embossing powder bubbles a bit and is very glossy.
  4. Gently spray the cardstock with water.
  5. Take sponges and randomly sponge classic ink over the embossed image.

Finishing Touches

  1. Stamp leaf image randomly on card base in Pumpkin Pie classic.
  2. Create tag using Big Shot, and stamp greeting towards right hand side of tag.
  3. Punch out Pumpkin Pie flower using Fancy Flower Punch, punch out So Saffron Flower with Five Flower Punch.
  4. Stamp small flower image from Tropical Party on Whisper White. (On the sample I used Rock and Roll technique to use both So Saffron and Pumpkin Pie). Cut out flower using paper snips.
  5. Assemble flower by layer Pumpkin Pie flower, followed by So Saffron flower, stamped flower and then an Ice Circle brad to top it off. Attach flower to tag with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  6. Adhere batik panel to card base with SNAIL. Attach tag panel to the cardfront with SNAIL.

Watercolor Trio

Posted on June 4, 2010June 3, 2010 by Josee

   Wc trio josee

Watercolor Trio has quickly become one of my favourites from the Summer Mini catalogue. It's just so simple and looks like you've done a lot more work that you really have!

On this card, the combination of the Top Note Die and new Lattice die, both for the Big Shot really make this card seem like you've done a lot more work.   A fun Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon threaded through the horizontal slot punch tops everything off nicely.

Here's what the stamp set looks like:

Stampin’ Girls Weekend

Posted on June 3, 2010June 3, 2010 by Josee

\

Wow! What a fabulous weekend! Friday night and Saturday I hosted the Annual Stampin' Girls Convention. More than 80 lovely ladies attended this year and we had a blast. Don't you love how everyone is smiling in these pictures? It's because I truly have the best team of demonstrators, and they all love to get together to stamp and share with one another. I want to thank all of the ladies who helped make this year's event a success – I couldn't do it without all of you.

Our guest speaker was the fabulous Andrea Walford who shared a ton of business and stamping ideas with all of us. Plus, Andrea planned all of our make and takes, so we had two awesome projects featuring the Tropical Party Stamp Set – a card box with four cards and a vacation mini scrapbook. Both projects were a hit with the group.

In addition to Andrea's presentation, we had six demonstrators present and they shared lots of tips and tricks on a variety of topics including stencilling, paper flowers, scrapbooking and using My Digital Studio . I know I picked up a few great ideas that I'll be sharing with you soon! Linda Willman also did a great presentation on using your Big Shot to make fabric projects, and showed lots of projects including fabric flowers, a hat and more.

There was also lots of swapping, including the WOW swap which features anything but a card. This swap is where you can really see the talent and creativity of these ladies shine. There were over 25 projects which I'm hoping to share with you soon in a future post.

Now, what's an event without food ? We had a candy bar, and a fabulous lunch catered by Bianca's Kitchen which drew rave reviews. If you need a caterer, she comes highly recommended by 80 hungry ladies. And best of all, she's a Stampin' Up demonstrator on my team!

One unplanned, but very welcome event, was that a few of the demonstrators in attendance had received their 2010/2011 Idea Book and Catalogue and were kind enough to share it around the room. I have to tell you, I am so excited about the new products in this catalogue – some great new stamp sets, lots of accessories with the new colour collections and items for the Big Shot. I can't wait until I have my copy and can share it with you in June!
