Masculine Valentine’s Day Card

Posted on February 8, 2008February 8, 2008 by Josee

Here’s a fun Valentine’s Day card I made!  I thought it was a nice masculine card that my husband wouldn’t cringe at. You know how it is…you try to make a card for a man…and it’s difficult to not add some kind of flower or frilly ribbon. My husband always likes cards with "lots going on"…his words, not mine.

To colour the tree, I used my aquapainter with Always Artichoke as the base and Handsome Hunter for the darker highlights. For the trunk I used Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa.

I used the distressing tool on the Cutter Kit to create a roughed up edge on my Naturals Ivory and Chocolate Chip layers. I love this little kit! You have a cutter, a perforator, a scoring blade and the distressing too.

Supplies Used:
Stamp Sets: Lovely as a Tree, Sanded, Holidays & Wishes
Cardstock: Blue Bayou, Creamy Caramel, Naturals Ivory, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Stazon Black, Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Always Artichoke, Handsome Hunter
Accessories: Cutter Kit, Corner Rounder, Paper Piercing Tool, Jumbo Pewter Eyelets, Aquapainter, Blue Bayou Double Stitched Ribbon, Crop-A-Dile
Technique: Distressing, Watercoloring, Direct to Paper

For the Greeting, I used "Happy Valentine’s Day" from Holidays & Wishes. I cut out a rectangle piece, than used my Corner Rounder punch to create the rounded edges. You would get a similar look using the Key Tag punch, but, apparently- I don’t own it. (It’s now on my list to buy! hee, hee). I then used my Crop-A-Dile  to add a Pewter Jumbo Eyelets and added some Blue Bayou Double Stitched Ribbon.

On the Creamy Caramel layer, I stamped the Sanded Background stamp and some randomn leaves from Lovely as a Tree with Creamy Caramel Ink. I then used my Paper Piercing tool out of my Crafter’s Tool kit  to add some small holes.

So, what do you think??? Yes, I’m looking for some shameless feedback! Leave me a comment to let me know what you think!!!
Have a HAPPY STAMPING DAY! Josee

Frienship Blooms meets Build-a-Brad

Posted on February 6, 2008February 15, 2008 by Josee

At my Stamp Club night on Monday, this is one of the projects we made. We used the Frienship Blooms stamp set out of the Sale-A-bration brochure. Did you notice that the stamp set coordinates with the Love & Happiness Rub-ons? I didn’t know before ordering them, but, the rub-ons in this package have 4 different coloured sheets. You’ll find a black, white, old olive and Chocolate Chip.
For this card we used a 6×6 piece of Kraft cardstock and folded it in half. We used a Soft Sky and Very Vanilla layer. The ink colour was Old Olive to match the Old Olive ribbon. We added a Pewter Build-A-Brad in the middle of the cut out flower. I love Build-A-Brad, it really adds that special touch to a card.

Here’s how to Build-A-Brad Works

Step 1: Punch hole in middle of flower. Step 2: Stamp Image on scrap pager and use 1/2" circle punch to punch out theimage that you want in your Build-A-Brad.

Step 3: Add a small amount of Liquid glue or glue dot to middle and add 1/2" punched circle. Step 4: Carefully remove top layer from package ensuring you don’t leave fingerprints on bottom and position on top of circle. Press down firmly to set.

Step 5: Place brad in punched holes.

Step 6: Flatten out the back of the brad. Voila!!! You now have a lovely Brad.

Can you picture how many different designs you can do with it? I hope you enjoyed the "How to" of Build-A-Brad!
(Card inspired by a swap from Shalon Doxsee)

Have a HAPPY STAMPING DAY! Josee

Make-It Challenge

Posted on February 4, 2008February 7, 2008 by Josee

Here is a card from my SAB swap made by Nikki Simard using the Lots of Thoughts stamp set from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure. I loved this card from the first time I saw it. It uses such a fun, simple design that can be used over and over with different stamps and colours.

Challenge: Make a card using this template and link it to this blog by leaving a comment.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!  Josee
