Watercolor Embossing

Posted on March 19, 2015March 13, 2015 by Josee

Good Morning!

Thanks for coming by today! I wanted to show you a fun technique for a pretty watercolor look!

First I started with a Strawberry Slush card base. Then, I cut a sheet of Watercolor Paper to fit and got my Spring Flowers Textured Impressions Embossing Folder ready. I used the Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana Classic Stamp Pads and Aqua Painters filled with water to pick up the ink from the ink pad lids.

Tip: Just give the lid a little squeeze before you open up the ink pad and there will be a light spot of ink on the lid- this is what you will use to watercolor with! That way you don't get water directly on your ink pad! Use a paper towel to clean up any excess when you are all done!

I used the Aqua Painter to drop ink colours right on the embossing folder in the recessed side. I tried to fill the flowers with the Strawberry Slush and the leaves with Coastal Cabana but allowed the watery ink to run where it wanted to. Once I was satisfied the embossing folder was full enough of ink- it doesn't have to be perfect- I carefully placed the Watercolor Paper into the embossing folder and then ran it through the Big Shot.

What came out was this wonderful embossed image! I just love the subtle watercolor look! Now, you can let that dry or use a Heat Tool to speed things up. I let it dry while I worked on the sentiment. stamping jo watercolour emboss with Spring Flowers Celebrate Today

I used the Celebrate Today stamp set for the sentiments. I stamped 'Happy' in Strawberry Slush and then the 'Birthday' in Tuxedo Black. Then I lined up the die from the Deco Labels Collection Framelits to match up to the top of the stamped sentiments, ran it through the Big Shot and then cut it in half!  The matted layer behind it is the next size die cut from Coastal Cabana and embossed with the Chevron Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Those were both adhered together then added to the bottom of the Watercolor Paper layer.

Before adhering the Watercolor Paper layer to the card base, I added some ribbon from the Best Year Ever Accessory Pack (a Sale-A-Bration freebie!) and once it was all adhered together I added a strip of Pearl Basic Jewels to add a finishing touch!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

I will be back tomorrow with another cute card!

Hello Life! Do more of what makes you happy!

Posted on March 18, 2015March 13, 2015 by Josee

Good Morning!

Thanks for stopping by! I am back with another simple and easy card!

Hello Life, Birthday Bash Designer Washi Sheets, Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers

This card starts with a Bermuda Bay card base. I stamped the sentiment with Bermuda Bay on Whisper White, cut it out and ran the edges of it with the Tangerine Tango ink pad (I LOVE a pop of colour!) and then layered it on a mat of Birthday Bash Designer Washi Sheet cut to fit. I stamped the hearts along the edge with Whisper White ink.

Tip: In order to have the stamps line up perfectly, I lined the stamps themselves up on the acrylic stamping block before stamping!

Now, because I made this card before the Blendabilities were discontinued, I used the Blendablities to colour the Pearl Basics Jewels and the Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers.

Tip: If you don't have Blendablities you can use the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack to layer a pop of colored cardstock under the Epoxy Stickers instead! There are also some stamps that coordinate with the hearts and stars in the epoxy sticker set! In fact, the tiny hearts in the Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers would fit perfectly over the tiny hearts in the Hello Life stamp set!

Check this out! I did some experimenting…I used an Aqua Painter, some rubbing alcohol and a classic ink pad to color the pearls and it worked quite well!! Check out my experiment below…

I squeezed a bit of ink from the ink pad onto it's lid, then used an Aqua Painter to pick up some rubbing alcohol and then picked up some ink from the ink pad lid and painted the pearls! Here I used Melon Mambo to experiment, I haven't tried other colours yet to see if they all work the same. alchol & ink colouringI also tried using a marker- I coloured the marker onto an acrylic stamp block, then used the Aqua Painter and alcohol to pick up the ink to color. The pearl on the left was colored with the marker- it didn't work as nicely on that one, but worked ok on another one not shown. I may need to experiment with the markers a little more 🙂  alcohol & aqua painterHere is a sample I did on Whisper White cardstock: the hearts are stamped with Tuxedo Black; the top heart is coloured the same way as the pearls with alcohol and the ink pad- it coloured the image quite nicely! The second heart was watercoloured using the Aqua Painter, water and the Melon Mambo ink pad. The water pilled the paper a bit, while the alcohol didn't!

I tried this experiment with the Itty Bitty Accents Epoxy Stickers too and it didn't color the larger heart as nicely as it did the pearls, but that's okay, using the coordinating punches with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack will work perfectly! Now, when I have a bit more time I will test out a few more colours to see if this works with all the ink colors! I am hoping this will be a great option to colour in those stamps!

I'd love to hear if you give this a try and weather or not it works well with other colours!

Tomorrow I will be showing you another fun coloring technique! wink

Simply Painted Petals

Posted on March 17, 2015March 17, 2015 by Josee

Hello!

Welcome back! Happy St. Patty's Day!

Before I show you today's card, I have an announcement: Stampin' Up has decided to discontinue the MDS Digital products and Printing as of May 31, 2015. If you are an MDS user, please read the details and Q&A here.

Now, onto the fun stuff. I just love the card I am sharing with you today. I know I've said it many times, but I love simple cards! And I just love it when a particular stamp set is perfect for making simple cards! Painted Petals is one those stamp sets!

First thing I did was to stamp the Painted Petals flowers on the Whisper White. I used a rock n' roll technique to ink the flowers: I inked them up with the Wisteria Wonder ink pad, then rolled the edges of the flower stamps in Blackberry Bliss before stamping them. I did the same thing with the leaves using only Always Artichoke- except that I stamped off on a scrap piece of paper and then rolled the edges in Always Artichoke again.

I just used my Paper Trimmer to cut the Whisper White piece and then matted it on a layer of Wisteria Wonder.

I cut the Whisper White card base and then used the Apothecary Accent Framelit die to cut only the edge of the card. You can do this by inserting the card 'through' the framelit and line it up evenly before putting it on the Magnetic Platform to run it through the Big Shot.

Then I stamped the sentiment in Wisteria Wonder and added some Pearl Basics Jewels for a special touch 🙂

Now, onto this week's NEW Weekly Deals! Built for Free Using: My Stampin Blog

Make sure you come back tomorrow! I've got another simple pretty card to share! 🙂

Stampers Dozen Blog Hop: Home Decor

Posted on March 14, 2015March 15, 2015 by Josee

Good Morning!

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Welcome to this month's 'Home Decor' Blog Hop! I hope you enjoy the project I created for this month's blog hop! It took some time, but it was a lot of fun to create!

Build A Bouquet Wreath by StampingJo

If you need a March Break activity, this would really be a great project to get your older kids involved in. If they are old enough to use a glue gun, they can make these flowers!  The more help you can enlist to make the flowers, the faster this project will go wink but this project could be completed in a weekend even without help. I made most of the flowers while I sat and caught up on some t.v. viewing. laugh

I used all the items from the kit to make this wreath. First, I had to create all the flowers! I just followed the instructions provided in the kit to create each flower however I did not attach the leaves as instructed. The instructions indicated gluing the leaves onto the wire stems- but the wire stems were just going to be wound around the wreath and would have ruined the leaves- instead I glued the leaves right under the flowers themselves, and also glued some leaves directly to the wreath after it was completed.

Here is how I made it:

StampingJo Wreath formI used the wire stems included in the kit to create the wreath base. Two wires were connected together to get the length needed, then I used a cylinder shaped jug to help shape it into a circle. StampingJo Wreath- wires bent around wreath form
I wound each flower stem around the wire base to keep them secured onto the wreath.
StampingJo WreathTo help the flowers point the direction I wanted them to, I used pliers to bend the wire so the flowers would point forward. stampingjo wreathI also cut the stems shorter so that there wasn't as much to wind around the wreath.

Wreath- StampingJo back of wreathOnce all the flowers were attached, I used the cotton ribbon that came with the kit to cover up the wire. It doesn't look that pretty, but it's really just to keep it from scratching the wall 🙂 Then I glued some leaves where I felt the wreath needed a few more. Build a Bouquet Wreath, stampin upThen I stamped with the Hello Life stamp set and die cut the center circle using the Circles Collection Framelit. I then added rhinestones from the Rhinestones Basics Jewels as a bling-y border (I used the long rhinestone strips). I then used some Old Olive Trim to hang the die cut from the top of the wreath (you could also just use the twine included with the kit!).

I actually didn't use all of the kit, I just made enough flowers for this project for now 🙂 but now I have leftovers to create something else!

Now to finish off the wreath, I also used some additional Cotton Ribbon to add the bow to the top of the wreath.

Now I have a gorgeous and colourful wreath to decorate my newly redecorated office! Love it!!

Here is a list of the supplies I used to create this project:

In addition to these Stampin' Up supplies, you need a glue gun and wire cutters/pliers. On another note, I did not use the Build a Bouquet Stamp Set as the kit instructed because I don't have it, but for some added dimension to the flowers I would suggest getting the stamp set. It definitely would add a really nice touch to each flower.
