Santa Treat Bag

The Top Note truly is one of the most versatile Big Shot dies around. It's no wonder that it is one the biggest selling dies! Here's another great use for the Top Note, a little bag perfect for a gift card or holiday treats. A variation on this can easily be adapted for birthdays or a party favour.

  • Stamps: Jolly Old Saint Nick (W121711/C121321), Bell and Boughs (W120831/C121142), Christmas Collage (121179)
  • Ink: Crumb Cake (121030), Cherry Cobbler (119669) and Early Espresso (119670) Classic, Real Red (100052), Regal Rose (105018) and Blush Blossom (100037) Stampin' Write Markers
  • Paper: Crumb Cake (120953), Very Vanilla (101650)
  • Accessories: Early Espresso Striped Grosgrain Ribbon (119961), SNAIL (104332), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430), Lunch Sacks (121031), Sticky Strip (104294)
  • Tools: Big Shot Die Cutting System (113439), Top Note Bigz Die (113463), Wide Oval Punch (119859), Small Oval Punch (119855)

Step by Step Directions

  1. Cut two Top Notes out of Crumb Cake cardstock.
  2. Stamp Christmas Collage in Crumb Cake classic ink on Crumb Cake cardstock.
  3. Cut paper sack down to 2.5 inches.
  4. Take top note and punch small oval on the first top note to create a handle. Line up the first one on top of the second one and punch the second handle.
  5. Adhere the two top notes to the treat sac with Sticky Strip. Trim off pointy parts of top note on the bottom.
  6. Stamp greeting in Cherry Cobbler on Very Vanilla cardstock and punch out with the Wide Oval. Attach to the bag with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  7. Stamp Santa in Early Espresso classic on Very Vanilla. Cut out and then color hat with Real Red marker, tongue with Regal Rose and skin with Blush Blossom. Attach Santa to the bag with Stampin' Dimensionals.

These bags make an affordable stocking stuffer or teacher's gift, so get out that Big Shot and some treat sacs to create some handmade gifts from the heart!

I just can't believe that December is nearly here. Looking out the window, I see TONS OF SNOW and it seems to just keep coming! Santa will just have to look for the house "burried" under the snow this year.

Technique Time: Spot Heat Embossing

Learn how to add embossing detail to a focused area this week. Perfect for adding a bit of shine with clear embossing powder as on the bells above.

Cardstock Dimensions for this Project

  • Cherry Cobbler
    • 8.5 x 5.5 for card base
  • Basic Black
    • 4 x 5.25 for card mat
  • Crumb Cake
    • Piece for tag die
  • Deck the Halls
    • Strip of holly designer paper for strip on bottom of tag
  • Newsprint Designer Series Paper
    • 5.25 x 2.5, and then torn

Technique Directions

  1. Take Versamarker and color where you want to add the embossing detail. This is a great way to add clear embossing powder over colored images.
  2. Add embossing powder and tap off excess.
  3. Heat set until it becomes shiny. (It's hard to see here but the bells become shiny!)

Tips and Tricks:

  • Using the Versamark, you can add clear embossing powder to highlight images on your card, fill in areas, etc.
  • The Versamark is a great way to fix stamped images that you've embossed and haven't turned out as you wish.

Finishing Touches

  1. Take card base and fold in half.
  2. Take designer series paper with music notes from the Newsprint Designer Series Paper and tear gently. Ink edges with Crumb Cake Classic Ink. Attach to Basic Black Cardstock with SNAIL. Attach to card base with SNAIL.
  3. Cut large tag using Big Shot out of Crumb Cake Cardstock.
  4. Stamp holly images randomly on tag using Crumb Cake Classic Ink.
  5. Stamp greeting with Early Espresso on right top side.
  6. Add strip of Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper to bottom of tag. Top off with strip of Basic Black ribbon with SNAIL, trim off edges.
  7. Stamp bells on left hand side in Basic Black and color in with markers.
  8. Take Versamarker and carefully color over the stamped/colored image. Add clear embossing powder and tap off excess. Heat set until it is shiny.
  9. Add vintage brad through hole on tag.
  10. Attach tag to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Get out that Versamark and see where you can use embossing powder to add a little unexpected pop to your projects.

Joy Scrapbook Page

It sure seems like during the holidays we take way more photos than normal, so we end up with lots of photos to scrapbook.

To get your holiday pages done, simple but elegant pages like this offer a quick and easy solution. Using neutrals as a base and a few key colors you can unify multiple layouts and save on supplies. Here Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler are paired for a classic holiday look.

  • Paper: Crumb Cake 12×12 (119929), Cherry Cobbler 12×12 (119690), Early Espresso Cardstock (119686), Love Letter Designer Series Paper (117162)
  • Accessories: SNAIL (104332), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430), Basic Pearls (119247),Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding (120992), 1/8 Early Espresso Taffeta Ribbon (119959)
  • Tools: Big Shot Die Cutting System (113439), Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die (120893), Serif Essentials Alphabet (113464)

Step by Step Directions

  1. Using direct to paper method drag Crumb Cake Classic Ink on paper to texturize, and ink the edges.
  2. Cut Early Espresso Card Stock to 7.5 x 10 and attach to cardstock with SNAIL.
  3. Cut a 3 x 12 strip of Designer Series Paper, and then run Cherry Cobbler piece through Big Shot with Tasteful Trim die to create scallop edge.  Attach scallop edge to back of patterned paper with SNAIL, and then attach entire panel to page.
  4. Run Early Espresso ribbon along seem between trim and patterned paper, attach with SNAIL and trim off edges.
  5. Cut letters for title – JOY – out of Early Espresso using the Big Shot and the Serif Essentials Alphabet.  Attach to page base. 
  6. Top off letter O with a bow out of Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding and a Basic Pearl.
