Project of the Week: Halloween Water Bottle Holder

Posted on September 7, 2010 by Josee

I can't believe that September is here and that my kids are starting school tomorrow, they are both really excited. I hope they find their first day a good one. This new school is much bigger than they are used to and their class is much larger too. This summer has just flown by…with selling our house, packing, moving and unpacking…we didn't get much of a summer at all. We did do a few fun things here and there, but, we didn't get to have a get-away at all. I'm glad to be settled into our house now. We still don't have everything unpacked, but, the important stuff is all out. The next priority for this house is blinds and curtains. I feel like I live in a glass bubble. I'm going to Utah next week for the Founder's Circle trip and still have so much to organize…including making 135 cards…yikes! I guess I better sign off now and get them started!

NEW this month:
PRIZE PATROL- leave a comment on any post and at the end of the month I will do a randomn draw to win a free mystery stamp set. (Open to Canadians only, sorry)

If you are looking for something a bit different to make this Halloween, try out these easy Halloween-themed water bottle hangers! There's a little pocket on the front to put a package of Crystal Light or something similar. This version of the project features Wicked Cool (W118738/C120600) from the Idea Book and Catalog.

Step by Step Directions

  1. Cut Rich Razzleberry cardstock to 2.75 x 11.
  2. Score at 3 inches, and then flip over and score at 8 inches. Fold along score lines. One score will have the cardstock flipping up, and the other will be the one that hangs on the bottle.
  3. For the bottle hanger part, take the 1 3/8 Circle Punch and push it in all the way – this will centre it for you top to bottom. Be sure to Centre side to side and then punch.
  4. Flip up other panel and secure sides using Mini Glue Dots to create a pocket.
  5. Cut Old Olive Cardstock to 2.5 x 2.5, and Whisper White Cardstock to 2.25 x 2.25. Stamp images as desired. Above the Web is Basic Grey, the Boots are Rich Razzleberry and Spooky is in Old Olive.
  6. Adhere stamped panel to Old Olive piece with SNAIL, and then attach to bottle holder using SNAIL. Top off witch's boots with rhinestones.
  7. Stamp bats on top portion of hanger in Rich Razzleberry Classic to create a tone on tone effect.
  8. Punch three bats using the Bitty Bat Punch out of Basic Black. Adhere to hanger using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Stampin' Up Supply List

Stamps: Wicked Cool (W118738/C120600)

Ink: Basic Grey (109120), Rich Razzleberry (115658), Old Olive (102277)

Paper: Rich Razzleberry (115316), Old Olive (100702), Whisper White (100730)

Accessories: Basic Rhinestones (119246), SNAIL (104332), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430), Mini Glue Dots (103683)

Tools: 1 3/8 Circle Punch (119860), Bitty Bat Punch (119279)

This project can easily be adapted for multiple occasions – birthday parties, girls night out, and more. You could also clean out the bottles and fill them with candy, and cover them with Designer Series Paper for a fun twist on this, and then add a message into the front pocket of the holder. Or make a fun holder for a bottle of apple cider or wine this holiday season.

Technique Time: White Washing

Posted on August 31, 2010August 31, 2010 by Josee

Tomorrow's the day you've been waiting for! The day that the Holiday Mini Catalogue comes into effect! If you haven't received one in the mail yet, you'll have to come back tomorrow to check it out. It's absolutely FABULOUS!!!

Remember, my FREE SHIPPING SALE is still on until Sept. 6th!

If you like the vintage look, you are going to love this simple way to add some texture and visual interest with White Craft Ink. It's super simple, but may be something you've not thought of yet! This card features some new products from the Holiday Mini including the ½ Inch Lace Trim (120988), and 2 ½ Circle Punch (120906).

Stampin' Up Supply List

  • Stamps: Engraved Greetings (117116)
  • Ink: Versamark (102283), Whisper White Craft Ink (101731)
  • Paper: Crumb Cake (120953), Cherry Cobbler(119685), Basic Black (121045), Love Letter Designer Series Paper (117162)
  • Accessories: Distressing Kit (118762), Basic Pearls (119247), Victoria Crochet Trim (118481), ½ Inch Lace (120988), Silver Embossing Powder (109131), SNAIL (104332), Sponge Daubers (102892), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430)

  • Tools: Big Shot Machine (113439), Top Note (113463), Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder(119976), Heat Tool (100005), 2 ½ Circle Punch (120906)

  Cardstock Dimensions for this Project

  • Crumb Cake
    • Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5
  • Designer Series Paper
    • Mat: 4 x 5.25
    • Stamped Image Panel: 4 x 2
  • Cherry Cobbler
    • Top Note: 4 x 5.25
  • Basic Black
    • Embossed Image: 3 x3

Technique Directions

  1. Take any embossed image and to bring out the pattern, gently rub Whisper White Craft Ink on top.
  2. You can also do this with any cardstock – embossed or not – to create a vintage feel while staying away from darker distressing techniques.

Finishing Touches

  1. Fold card base in half.
  2. Distress edges of Designer Series Paper with sanding block from distressing kit, and gently rub Tea Stain ink over the paper. Attach to card base with SNAIL.
  3. Cut out Top Note using Big Shot from Cherry Cobbler cardstock; run back through Big Shot to emboss with Square Lattice folder.
  4. Layer ribbon, two pieces of Lace Trim, and one of Crochet Trim – affix to Top Note with SNAIL.
  5. Attach Top Note to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  6. Stamp greeting in Versamark and heat emboss with silver powder. Cut out with 2 3/8 circle punch. Affix to card as shown using Stampin' Dimensionals.

White Washing is a great take on more dramatic forms of distressing, try it out on different projects to get new looks.
