Owls are a hot trend in cardmaking and scrapbooking, and this owl from the Aviary stamp set is just too cute. Aviary is one of the most popular stamp sets from the latest Idea Book and Catalogue – and with good reason. There's a lot of different techniques you can do with this stylish stamp set, including Punch Highlighting. This technique was featured in a presentation at Convention using this set and inspired this card!

    • Card Base: 3 x 11
    • Scrap for highlight punching
  • Crumb Cake Cardstock
    • Mat for Image: 2.75 x 5.25
  • Whisper White
    • Scrap for greeting
  • Soft Suede

Technique Directions

This technique works with any stamped image when you want to add more focus on a portion of it.

  1. Stamp image on card mat (this is the main image)
  2. Stamp the image again in color you want to have as the highlight. In this case you will stamp the birdcage again on Pink Pirouette and punch out with 1 inch circle. Layer on top of main image.

Finishing Touches

  1. Fold card base in half.
  2. Stamp birdcage on Crumb Cake in Soft Suede. Add stand underneath.
  3. Stamp highlight portion as outlined above.
  4. Stamp Owl in Soft Suede Classic Ink on Whisper White Cardstock and punch out with ¾ Inch Circle Punch. Layer on top of punch highlight affixing with SNAIL.
  5. Add Crochet Trim using SNAIL as shown.
  6. Stamp greeting in Pink Pirouette Classic Ink and punch out with Word Window.
  7. Punch Soft Suede Cardstock with Modern Label; layer greeting on top with SNAIL.
  8. Add to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  9. Adhere panel to card base with SNAIL.
  10. Finish off by adding pearl to the top of the birdcage and to the greeting.
