Project of the Week: Tropical Party Scrapbook Page

By Josee · Wednesday, August 25th, 2010 · No Comments »

September is almost here…which means there's only a few days left to order from the Summer Mini Catalogue. A lot of the products in this mini catalogue are gone after August 31st, so take a look and make sure there's not something on your wish list that you'd be missing out on.

This scrapbook page features two great products from the Summer Mini catalog: Island Oasis Designer Series Paper (117173) and Island Floral Bigz Die (118871), along with lots of Big Shot elements!

Step by Step Directions

  1. Cut four Scallop Squares from Old Olive cardstock.
  2. Cut out flower using Big Shot, using Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron and Rose Red card stock to create flowers. Layer together and fasten together using a Pumpkin Pie Floral Brad.
  3. Cut letters for title – Summer – out of Rose Red using the Alphabet Simple Dies.
  4. Cut a 2 inch strip of umbrella patterned paper, and a ½ inch strip of pumpkin pie polkadot designer series paper. Attach both to 12×12 So Saffron cardstock as shown.
  5. Attach title on top of strip of Designer Series Paper using SNAIL.
  6. Attach Scallop Squares as shown using SNAIL.
  7. Using Stampin' Dimensionals attach flower to lower right hand corner of page.

Cupcakes that WOW

By Josee · Monday, August 23rd, 2010 · No Comments »

Next time you make cupcakes, take them to the next level using the Perfect Setting Bigz XL Die (115961). The large ring makes a perfect holder for your cupcakes, which you could easily make out of your favourite Designer Series Paper. These would also make a part of a cute gift for a friend by creating these rings, and then adding some sprinkles, icing and a cake mix in a gift bag. An added bonus is that the rings can be used as napkin rings too. The die can cut through multiple sheets of cardstock, Textured Cuts wood sheets, window sheets, Decor Elements sheets and more!

You have to check out the cute cupcake covers on Sweet Stamper, can you picture decorating cupcakes decorated for every occasion?!

A touch of elegance

When it comes to making 3D items, especially boxes, the Big Shot makes things fun and easy. Can you imagine cutting, scoring and assembling this box? The Matchbox Big XL Die (114890) is a huge time saver, doing the heavy lifting for you. You make a few folds, add some sticky strip and voila, instant box!

Step by Step Directions

  1. Cut out box and top piece out of Sahara Sand 12 x 12 cardstock using Big Shot machine.
  2. Assemble box bottom with sticky strip. (*Using Sticky Strip with boxes ensures they will stay together.)
  3. Take top of box and run through Big Shot again using Elegant Lines Embossing Folder. When you do this, you want to ensure that the bulk of the pattern is on the piece that will be facing up when this piece is assembled.
  4. Assemble box top using Sticky Strip and slide onto base.
  5. Take Basic Black Satin Ribbon and create a belly band around the box top, fastening the ends to the bottom of the box top with SNAIL.
  6. To create your flower, punch six 1 ¾ Scallop Circles from Blushing Bride Cardstock. Scrumple up each one and then mist them all with water so they are wet. Scrumble a bit more. Stack them up and then set the brad through the middle. Use your fingers to build up the layers as it dries. To speed drying use a heat tool and keep plumping up the layers so you have lots of petals.
  7. Attach finished flower to box over top of ribbon with a Stampin' Dimensionals.
  8. Stamp "friends" in Blushing Bride Classic Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock and then punch out with Jewellery Tag punch.
  9. Attach tag to box, tucking under the edge of the flower, with SNAIL.

Stampin' Up Supply List

Think of the fun little items you could put into this box and give to a friend or loved one. It's the perfect size for a charm from the Simply Adorned Jewelery Line too! To order any of the supplies used in this project and have them shipped right to your door, please visit my online store.

By Josee · Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 · No Comments »

SP4

Owls are a hot trend in cardmaking and scrapbooking, and this owl from the Aviary stamp set is just too cute. Aviary is one of the most popular stamp sets from the latest Idea Book and Catalogue – and with good reason. There's a lot of different techniques you can do with this stylish stamp set, including Punch Highlighting. This technique was featured in a presentation at Convention using this set and inspired this card!

Technique Directions

This technique works with any stamped image when you want to add more focus on a portion of it.

  1. Stamp image on card mat (this is the main image)

  1. Fold card base in half.
  2. Stamp birdcage on Crumb Cake in Soft Suede. Add stand underneath.
  3. Stamp highlight portion as outlined above.
  4. Stamp Owl in Soft Suede Classic Ink on Whisper White Cardstock and punch out with ¾ Inch Circle Punch. Layer on top of punch highlight affixing with SNAIL.
  5. Add Crochet Trim using SNAIL as shown.
  6. Stamp greeting in Pink Pirouette Classic Ink and punch out with Word Window.
  7. Punch Soft Suede Cardstock with Modern Label; layer greeting on top with SNAIL.
  8. Add to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  9. Adhere panel to card base with SNAIL.
  10. Finish off by adding pearl to the top of the birdcage and to the greeting.
